A collective embrace that united the whole city, from the San Paolo stadium to Piazza del Plebiscito, the two symbolic places of football and Naples.

This is how Naples bid farewell to Diego Armando Maradona, releasing love and emotion, letting the emotions and tears flow.

"Naples will never forget you, it is what we give you for all that you gave us in your years in blue", say the fans who gathered by the thousands in front of the San Paolo stadium, at the entrance to the curve B that has become a Diego shrine with hundreds of lighted candles, posters, banners, photographs, children's drawings and bouquets of flowers.

A collective farewell that lasted all day and culminated in the choreography of the ultras who surrounded the stadium in thousands, each with a red flare that they all have access to together, starting a very long chorus "I saw Maradona".

A way to scream with composure and emotion that Maradona really saw him and will always keep him in their hearts.

A ceremony of great participation also that in Piazza del Plebiscito, where thousands of fans of Curva A have set up a giant picture of Diego Maradona in front of the entrance of the Royal Palace.

The ultras arrived in the square singing the choirs of Diego's time and illuminated the Plebiscite with hundreds of red flares that lit up the entire colonnade of the church of San Francesco di Paola.

Then the minute of silence played with the trumpet and the opening of a banner as wide as the entire facade of the Royal Palace with the words "Your disappearance, a blow to the chest and a pain in the heart, Naples swears eternal love".

A very popular ceremony in a square that would have been completely filled without the rules of covid19.

But mourning and commemoration crossed all the homes of the Neapolitans, from the popular neighborhoods to the salons of intellectuals such as those of "Te Diegum".

The love for Maradona has united the two Naples over the years.

From Ponticelli to Posillipo at 9 pm the Neapolitans join once again in the sign of the pibe de oro by lighting candles on their balconies and windows and starting a long collective applause at the end of the minute of silence at the San Paolo stadium before Naples- Rijeka.

Maradona was a shared joy now it is a collective pain.
