The incidence of the coronavirus continues its decline in Spain.

The Ministry of Health has added 12,289 new cases of coronavirus and 337 deaths this Thursday.

The cumulative incidence is 325 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

As this rate falls, at a slow pace, the occupancy of hospitals also decreases, which are gradually freeing themselves from the pressure of the coronavirus.

Despite the improvement, all the indicators remain "very high", in the words of the director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES), Fernando Simón.

"This is not where we want to be," he said in his appearance this Thursday, recalling that the goal is to lower than 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

All the autonomous communities, except the Canary Islands, have improved their figures.

The archipelago has been on a plateau for weeks, with small fluctuations up or down, which keep it in a more favorable situation, with 77.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Simón has pointed out that the incidence not only decreases in all communities [except the Canary Islands], but also among those over 65, which is precisely the group most vulnerable to covid-19.

“But the situation is not calm at all.

It is important to maintain tension and measures, both individually and by the institutions ”, he recalled.

The director of the CCAES has explained that the fall is solid, but that the Constitution Bridge and Christmas could change the trend.

“Let's see how we behave.

There will be some effect, but hopefully it will be the least possible ”.

Regarding the Christmas holidays, he said that regardless of whether measures are decided, each community will have to assess its situation in order to adapt the limitations to the situation that occurs then.

With regard to conducting massive diagnostic tests for those who return home on those dates, Simón has said that the door "is not closed", but that the ministry's policy is to do the tests "directed, not to do them to those who do not have sense".

In this regard, he explained that the assessment and interpretation of each type of test varies depending on the context, so you have to "be careful" with those that are done in bulk.
