The smart speaker market continues to grow despite the pandemic and is being driven by new models with integrated screens, while traditional devices are losing ground.
Global connected speaker deliveries increased 2.6% in the third quarter to around 36.5 million units, according to the latest figures released by Strategy Analytics researchers.
Deliveries of devices with displays grew by 21% to 9.5 million and came to represent a quarter (26%) of the overall market.
Shipments of screenless speakers, on the other hand, fell by 3%.
"Like many industries, smart speakers have had a tough year," notes analyst David Watkins. "However, the signs of recovery are starting to manifest themselves, and the commitment of companies is evident from the numerous new products and technological improvements that are brought to the market. Barring further serious economic disturbances, we expect that 2021 - he concludes - will be characterized by a further growth ".
