The most surprising things come to light in household resolutions. In Munster, an 80-year-old was noticed who was storing old Bundeswehr stocks in basement rooms. Police defusers moved in.

A retired Bundeswehr employee has stored more than 600 kilograms of ammunition, black powder and pyrotechnics in Munster, Lower Saxony.

As the police announced on Friday in Soltau, the collection was discovered about a week ago when a household was liquidated in two basement rooms and a rented garage.

The items therefore came from the Bundeswehr.

The officials assumed that the man, who is now over 80 years old, had been storing the items for at least 20 years.

The tendency is to assume a longer period of time.

Many of the finds looked very old and were also already heavily corroded, it said.

Specifically, there were large quantities of black powder, live ammunition, training cartridges and ignition devices.

There were also legal weapons and New Year's fireworks.

According to an initial evaluation, the man hoarded 470 kilograms of ammunition and pyrotechnics as well as another 170 kilograms of propellant powder.

According to the police, he retired 20 years ago and previously worked for a Bundeswehr site administration.

Criminal proceedings are now pending against him.

Police defusers removed the find.
