This is Pepper, a care robot.

His job today: He teaches gymnastics exercises for the seniors in day care.

The twenty-one-meter helper has been in action for two years - with great success.

Gertrud Ananiejv, customer

»If he could cook, clean and wash, then I would adopt him.

I like it that much. "

The robot Jamie takes on supporting activities such as taking fever measurements.

The Caritas welfare station St. Johannes in Erlenbach am Main in Bavaria is a pioneer in digitization.

Several robots are at work here - like Aker, an automatic trolley.

What started as a model project in 2018 is particularly helpful in times of the pandemic.

Gerhard Schumacher, First Chairman of the Caritas Sozialstation St. Johannes eV

“In 2018 we decided to start with the Pepper robot in order to simply relieve the nursing staff, not to replace them, that is a very important point for us.

And now with Corona this has now proven itself, also for the fever measurement story, the care, the speech. "

The nursing staff receive support, for example, with therapeutic offers.

The robot Pepper is not only responsible for gymnastics, but can also do a lot of games.

And even in different languages.

Gerhard Schumacher, First Chairman of the Caritas Social Station St. Johannes eV

“Our Pepper, he also speaks Turkish, we are a district here with around 20 percent non-German residents.

So we are very grateful.

The Turkish fairy tales are always very popular.

So, that makes sense and it strengthens and gives us a certain quality of our facility.

The robots can be programmed according to their needs, for example to register guests.

For the nursing staff, this ideally means that they can take care of individual care more.

Stefanie Glück, Head of Nursing at the Caritas Sozialstation St. Johannes eV

“Well, at the beginning, until everything works out, it is of course an extra effort, and it has to be accepted by the employees, they have to learn to deal with it.

And also to the guests, who also have to be introduced, but now it's all super good.

Yes, it helps. "

A total of 32 employees work in this care facility - with the digital helpers there are now 35.
