On November 16, two killers of the Red Brigades had surprised him without an escort in the entrance hall.
For the first time, the five-pointed star terrorists fired to kill a journalist who openly contested terrorism and armed struggle.
Carlo Casalegno had spent the day, as always, in the editorial office.
He had delayed to finish his job, giving up on being accompanied home by the director Arrigo Levi, with the armored car and the escort that protected him.

he was the only one with an escort and, since Carlo Casalegno was the object of terrorist threats, he put it at his disposal.
