(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 30 - Thirteen organizations and people have been indicted by the New Zealand authorities in the investigation into the White Island tragedy, where in December last year 22 people were killed in the eruption of the Whakaari volcano.

Among the accused, ten parties were charged against the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which provides for a fine of up to New Zealand dollars 1.5 million ($ 1.06 million).
Three others have been charged as individuals and face up to $ 300,000 in fines.
They will have to appear in court on December 15th.
At the time of the eruption on December 9, 2019, there were 47 people on the island, including tourists from the United States, Great Britain, Germany and China.
No visitors have returned since the eruption of December 9 last.
A year later, many of the survivors are still receiving treatment for the injured.
