The Rome Prosecutor's Office is moving forward and is ready to close the investigation against five members of the Egyptian secret services accused of the kidnapping of Giulio Regeni.

This is what was communicated today by the prosecutor Michele Prestipino to the Attorney General of Egypt, Hamada al Sawi, during a meeting held by videoconference.

"The Egyptian attorney general - it is said in a joint note - in taking note of the conclusion of the Italian preliminary investigations, expresses reservations on the solidity of the evidential framework which he believes consists of insufficient evidence to support the accusation in court. In any case, the attorney general of Egypt respects the decisions that will be taken, in its autonomy, by the public prosecutor of Rome ".

After five years "the Attorney General of Egypt believes that the material perpetrator of the murder of Giulio Regeni is still unknown".

This is what is stated in a joint note between the Egyptian and Italian judicial offices.

Prosecutor Hamada al Sawi announced that "he had collected sufficient evidence against a criminal gang accused of aggravated theft of Regeni's belongings which were found in the home of one of the members of the criminal gang".

"We take note of the umpteenth fruitless meeting between the two prosecutors. The roads between the two prosecutors have never been so divided. In recent years we have suffered injuries and outrages of all kinds from the Egyptian side, they kidnapped, tortured and killed a son , they have thrown mud and discredited him, lied, insulted and deceived not only us but the whole country ".

This was stated in a note by Paola and Claudio Regeni and the lawyer Alessandra Ballerini.

"If on the one hand we appreciate - continues the note - the resolute determination of our prosecutors who were able to conclude the investigations, without being weakened or confused by the numerous attempts at misdirection, by the interminable delays and by the lack of Egyptian answers, on the other hand we do not we can only stigmatize once more the

constant and blatant absence of collaboration on the part of the regime that continues to not respond to the letter of request of April 29, 2019

and did not even want to provide the election of domicile of the 5 National Security officials registered in the register of investigated two years ago ".

"Today - we read - the Egyptian prosecutors have had the audacity to" make reservations "on the work of our magistrates and investigators and to consider the evidence collected insufficient. We believe that our government should take note of this umpteenth slap in the face and recall the ambassador immediately ".

"An absolute lack of respect towards not only our judiciary but also our intelligence. Not only do they not respond - it is stated - to the letters rogatory and are unable to provide five addresses but even allow themselves to judge the evidential framework outlined by ours. prosecutor, insisting on giving us the old bloodthirsty misdirection of the 5 robbers that cost the lives of innocent people passed off as Giulio's killers ".

For the parents of the Italian researcher "a signal of dignity is needed so that no country can inflict all the evil in the world on a citizen and remain not only unpunished but also a friend. We owe it to Giulio and all the Julians who are still waiting for the truth. and justice ".
