Jean Pierre Mustier's adventure with Unicredit is at the end.
After rumors have been running around all day on the subject, the CEO of the banking institution has made it known that he will not reappear at the end of his mandate in April 2021. "Over the last few months - underlines in a note - it emerged that the strategy of the Plan Team 23 and its founding pillars
are no longer in line with the current vision of the Board
. As a result, I made the decision to leave the Group at the end of my term in April 2021, in order to allow the Board to define the strategy future ".
Unicredit burned a billion on the stock market during the day, in the wake of rumors about Mustier but also due to the constant references to a non-spontaneous marriage with Mps, which instead takes away more than one satisfaction on the stock market (+ 3%).
"I am proud of what we have achieved - said Mustier - and of what has been achieved in such a short time".
"I would like to thank all of the Group's colleagues for their extraordinary commitment over the past few years. Together we have successfully implemented the Transform 2019 plan and, as a result, we are in a strong position to continue supporting our customers and communities in all of our Countries remaining a true winning pan-European group ", he adds.
The designated Chairman Pier Carlo Padoan and the Unicredit Board of Directors will begin a search, both inside and outside the Group, to identify the new CEO following an accurate and rigorous selection process that reflects the Group's commitment to ensure solid corporate governance.
It can be read in the note announcing Mustier's decision not to reapply.
