What works best for cystitis

SPIEGEL:

Mr. Roth, how did you come up with the idea of writing a book about the bladder, of all things?

Roth:

Unfortunately, it is a completely forgotten organ.

It is only noticed when it is not working properly, and then it becomes embarrassing.

My 18-year-old daughter used to say to me: "Dad, you have to write about the bladder!"

In fact, the internet is full of half-truths, and many GPs don't really know.

That's why I tried to formulate my expert knowledge as a urologist in a generally understandable way.

It took me three years.

SPIEGEL:

You call the organ the "heart of the abdomen".

Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?

Roth:

I don't think so.

There are some parallels.

The heart and bladder are both hollow muscles.

Both organs are controlled by the autonomic nervous system.

Cystitis can also be life-threatening if not properly treated.

But while the heart has a glamorous place in medicine, the bladder has to function inconspicuously for a lifetime after the cheering cry "The child is dry!"

Cystitis is one of the most common diseases.
