Active negotiations

" are also underway to launch such a news feed in France and Germany, said the American giant of social networks.

He had already launched Facebook News at the end of 2019 in the United States with the desire to promote journalism and to get rid of its reputation for disinformation.

"

With Facebook News, we will pay publishers for content that is not already on the platform, helping to attract new audiences and giving publishers more opportunities to monetize

" their articles, the group said in a statement.

Press crisis

Among these are the editors of the daily The Guardian, the weekly The Economist, the tabloid The Mirror but also the magazines Cosmopolitan and Vogue.

A video partnership has also been signed with the Channel 4 News channel.

We expect many more partners to join us ahead of launch

” in January 2021, Facebook said.

We will continue to work with publishers in countries where market conditions and regulatory frameworks allow this kind of investment and innovation,

” Facebook said.

This launch comes in the midst of a crisis for the press, faced with a fall in advertising revenue - the majority of which is captured by the digital giants - and physical sales with the rise of online content, often available for free.

This situation is amplified by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In November, the American giant Google signed agreements with French newspapers in order to remunerate the use of their content, a world first falling within the framework of European legislation on neighboring rights.
