Roldan Hanukkah 2020 Donuts (Dave Shachar)

Look, we're not going to risk here.

These are very complex times, with very complex characteristics, and no one has tears to waste on people who in the last month have received hundreds of donuts to taste from all the most worthwhile bakeries and confectioneries in the country.

And let's not be mistaken, the overwhelming majority were worth the calories and guilt feelings, yes?

But…

with all the chocolate discs and cream drizzles, meringue mountains and jandoya fillings, something was still missing.

Some will call it "authenticity", others will choose "as before", and we make it even simpler.

"Home", we were missing "home".

All the recipes, tips, shortcuts and patents for a perfect Hanukkah

The donut industry that has swelled here in recent years provides a huge supply for huge demand, but there is hardly a taste we have not attended recently (and as mentioned, we attended lots of tastings) that did not include anyone in the corner who just wants a "simple donut from the grocery store" .

And so, given that there is a demand for these as well, and given that it will be difficult to convince you to start making from scratch (we'll get to that too, don't worry), we decided to check out the perfect middle ground - three homemade donut kits from "Queen of Jelly", "Black Flour" And "COOKIT".

A little fuss (but really little), a little oil (really quite a bit) and a smell of yesteryear.

(Do not tell anyone, but in the end they defeated all the pompous drama-queens).

Donuts from "Blickmach" (Photo: Gal Calderon)

Dan Davis and Oren Dagan Kfir founded "Blikmach" about a year and a half ago, and managed in one fell swoop to break quite a few myths, prejudices and desperate eyes of people who avoid gluten.

They are routinely responsible for a very large variety of breads, pastries, cakes and cookies, and now they are free to tackle the Hanukkah challenge as well.

"The holiday takes on a different meaning this year, because of the home gathering," they said, "and to that end we have created a package of surprises that will both bring home the donuts with our special taste and also provide a shared experiential activity."

what?

The "Blikmach" kit comes in a reusable branded cooler and includes measured and weighed raw dough balls, a sprinkling bag with a sauce of your choice, sweet toppings, baking paper and a sticker that covers the donut and is used to estimate a diameter of 10 cm, for the experience profession. A classic (six dough balls with strawberry jam and powdered sugar, NIS 79), a lotus cookie cream donut (dough balls with cream and lotus cookie crumbs, NIS 89) and at least four other flavors.

How?

The measured dough balls can be kept in the freezer, according to Blickmach ", About two months, but we have a more problematic rejection capacity. We turned on an oven on low heat, put in a water pan, turned it off, pushed the dough in to rise and came back after two hours. We took out, waited a little longer, put oil on and set off. hot donuts and delicious smell of Hanukkah at home. Yes you can feel the difference in taste lighter the production of "Blikmh" and the donuts more conventional, but customers abstain from white flour (and the people who we are, rather than looking for candles, something critical to say) it is Bsihok.

Sharon Tarkinski makes "Queen of Jelly"

We will continue with the package of "Queen of Jelly", behind which stands Liat Hatucha, a display cake maker and also, well, a kind of Jelly Queen, or at least Queen of Jelly Cakes.

Cut took all her knowledge, which included tips, developed shortcuts and attracted with her anyone who wanted invested and tasty baking, but a little apprehensive.

what?

The "Queen of Jelly" Hanukkah package includes meticulous and high-quality baking mixes from Hatucha's factory, which guarantee - at least according to the statements - a non-industrial home taste.

She promises "an end to yeast, sifting, gluten, eggs and oil," and emphasizes that "making homemade donuts has never been easier."

In short, just add water, puff and fry.

how?

The mixture comes in a package that includes precise preparation instructions, and was enough for us for about 14 donuts.

The tampering was indeed negligible, some water in the mixer, some patience in the swelling, and some repression when the oil was spilled into the pan.

It will be said to the Queen's credit that the promises were fully fulfilled, and in the end donuts came out for real, without an artificial after-taste that can occasionally be felt in such shortcuts.

The price is great (38 shekels), and it also explains the lack of glitter and toppings.

Yes we would be happy to add a few more shekels and get in the box more little treats and not just jam, but these are the troubles of rich journalists.

COOKIT evaluation (Photo: Shai Ben Ephraim)

And we'll end with COOKIT, a project of invested home assessments (among other things, you can find kits for making coquilida, knapsack and malabi) from the "BRUNCH" catering house that attacked Hanukkah with a package that was all wow.

what?

COOKIT package for making donuts and donuts including - hold tight - a mixture for the batter, strainer, pipettes for injecting sauces, salty pretzel sauce, sweet and sour syrup, chewing gum, chocolate crackers, oreo chips, white chocolate, pretzel chips, colored candies and more.

how?

By and large, this is the same method as the "Queen of Jelly". That is, a ready-made mixture that requires only water, a mixer and rest time. Dealing with the dough, however, is a little different, and requires rolling, and winking circles with a cup, then rolling again and again winking, if you are in the business of utilizing all the raw material. It's a bit of work, but it's worth it, because it allows you to tell guests "I did" and not "bought".

From there, and after a little more swelling, the way to the pan is short, and from the pan the way is even shorter to the oral cavity. COOKIT's appreciation is very invested, goes down to the details and definitely fulfills the Instagram statements of those who designed it. Most of the toppings are tasty and high quality, a few of them raised an eyebrow at us (a sour-sweet sauce in a color that is too phosphorescent for our taste, for example) and the pipettes felt a bit "AliExpress", but the overall experience was sparkling. The price is not cheap - 180 shekels - but the value dwarfs it. These are, after all, at least 24 donuts and B & M toppings. Unfortunately we do not have to tell you how much this amount would cost you in confectioneries.
