A man killed five people in a rampage in downtown Trier, including a nine-month-old baby.
15 people suffered some serious injuries.
Immediately after the crime, the police arrested a 51-year-old German from the Trier-Saarburg district who, according to the public prosecutor, could be mentally ill.
The death ride has caused tremors across Germany.
