(ANSA) - ROME, 02 DEC - In October, the number of employees decreased slightly compared to September (-0.1% equal to 13,000 units less) but significantly reduced in October 2019 due to the pandemic with 473,000 fewer people working. Istat notes this, underlining that the decline is mainly due to the collapse of independent and temporary employment, while permanent employees have increased (+61,000) also thanks to the blocking of layoffs. Compared to February, a total of 420,000 employees have been lost. In the quarter August-October 2020 there was an increase of 115,000 employees on the previous quarter. The unemployment rate was stable at 9.8% compared to September but increased by 0.3 points on October 2019. Inactivity increased above all (+ 0.8 points on the year). The unemployment rate of young people rises to 30.3%. (HANDLE).
