At the Barzilai Medical Center, a young corona patient was hospitalized in critical condition and connected to a non-invasive respirator (High-Flow - without connection to the ventilator).

The medical team headed by the director of the Corona Unit, Dr. Boris Goltzman, Dr. Makram Nassar and the director of the Infections Division, Prof. Shlomo Maayan, decided to give the patient a trial drug called Alostra, which is intended for patients in critical condition, in addition to standard treatments.

Eight days later the patient was released from the ventilator and as of today his condition is well defined.

This is a cellular drug developed by the biotechnology company Enlebex Therapeutics.

This is the second phase of an experiment conducted, after the successful completion of the first phase at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

Alostra was developed on the basis of research by Prof. Dror Mevorach, Head of the Internal Medicine and Corona Department at Hadassah Ein Kerem, and is suitable for treating corona patients in a critical or humane condition.

Prof. Yaniv Scherer, director of Barzilai Medical Center: "We are promoting a series of clinical trials in a wide range of fields, including corona research. We will continue to provide our patients with the most advanced and up-to-date treatments available, and will continue to collaborate with research bodies in Israel and around the world."

Prof. Shlomo Maayan, Director of Infections at Barzilai and Director of Research: "We are aware that we may be on the verge of a revolution in the global fight to eradicate the Corona epidemic, both due to the results of Corona vaccine research and developments such as this drug in the most difficult patients. "Barzilai will continue this experiment and another series of experiments for advanced treatments for various disease states. The center is also participating in an experiment with the Israeli vaccine for corona, which will begin in less than a month."
