He is said to have caused a fatal accident in a construction site on the A1 in Hamburg, under the influence of alcohol and completely disinhibited: the 30-year-old admitted the act in parts in a trial at the St. Georg district court on Thursday.

According to an expert's report, on the night of May 1, 2019, the defendant's car collided with a vehicle in front of him that was traveling at around 60 km / h at more than 220 kilometers per hour.

His client was infinitely sad and shocked that a person had died, his defense lawyer said in a statement.

However, he rejected the charge of prohibited motor vehicle racing.

According to the defendant, the accident victim's car is said to have switched to the left lane suddenly and without cause.

According to the expert, however, it is highly likely that a lane change had already been completed at the time of the impact.

Due to the force of the impact, the car was thrown against a boundary wall and remained on the roof.

The 49-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident and his passenger was seriously injured.

A brother and the father of the fatally injured person appear in the trial as joint plaintiffs.

His client saved 1,800 euros, which he wanted to hand over to the plaintiffs as a gesture, said the defense attorney.

Repeatedly drunk behind the wheel

Shortly after the accident, the 30-year-old was said to have had about 0.4 per thousand alcohol in his breath.

In court, he said that he drank several small beers at a wedding before the trip.

Although the defendant is a car dealer, he does not have a driver's license, according to the prosecutor.

More than a year after the accident, the 30-year-old was caught again.

After drinking vodka and whiskey, among other things, he claims to have taken a friend's car to get supplies.

He was noticed by a police officer from the Hamburg Davidwache after work because he did not start despite the green light.

After honking the horn several times, the accused drove off with the tires spinning - only to brake again shortly afterwards, as the witness reported.

Police officers later found that the accused had a blood alcohol level of 1.68.

The trial is scheduled to continue on December 16.

It is unclear whether the verdict will be announced by then.
