Gandalf and Bilbo get together for a new mission! Well, not exactly. But at least the actors they played: with the support of fans, they want to buy JRR Tolkien's house.

"Project Northmoor" is the name of the new adventure by Gandalf, Bilbo and Gimli.

Or rather: That of the actors Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman and John Rhys-Davies, who played the three "Lord of the Rings" characters in the film series.

There is no new cinema project hidden behind the title - and yet one could say that it is a sequel to the saga.

From 1930 to 1947, JRR and Edith Tolkien lived at 20 Northmoor Road with their four children.

There, on the outskirts of the English university city of Oxford, "The Hobbit" and large parts of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy were created.

This place is now for sale for the first time.

But the famous former tenant has driven up the prices of the property.

The house will cost around 4.4 million euros.

And this is where Project Northmoor comes in.

“In contrast to other writers of his status, nowhere in the world is there a center dedicated to Tolkien - we want to change that,” says the campaign website: “Our vision is not to turn Tolkien's house into a dry museum, but rather to a cozy house of constant creativity that inspires new generations of writers, artists and filmmakers. «All you need is the 4.4 million euros to plan your house and garden (plus Hobbit House and Smaug's Cave for Pipe friends).

For this, the project hopes for the support of the fans.

The historic house has remained largely unchanged since it was built in 1924.

It has six bedrooms on the upper floor, one bedroom on the ground floor and a large garden.

In a video message on the initiative's website, McKellen, Freeman, Rhys-Davies, Annie Lennox and other prominent fellow campaigners from the "Lord of the Rings" universe tell the story of Tolkien - and of "20 Northmoor Road":

The project description ends with the appeal: "Help us to make the White Tree of Gondor bloom." And McKellen says that you will only be successful if you pursue the goal together - "as companions".
