(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 05 - Eighteen miners have died and another five are believed to be missing in a coal mine in China due to a carbon monoxide leak: according to the BBC, which cites state television, the disaster occurred in southwest of the country.
So far, only one person has been rescued from the Diaoshuidong mine in Chongqing Municipality.
The mine was closed two months ago and according to video from closed-circuit cameras, the gas leak occurred while miners were dismantling machinery deep inside.
Last September, 16 miners died in an altramine on the outskirts of Chongqing due to a conveyor that caught fire.
In December 2019, an explosion in a coal mine in Guizhou province (southwest) killed 14 people.
