"Health protection requires the commitment and participation of everyone".

The

CEI

underlines this

, highlighting "how much culture of proximity, how much life given to face the emergency in common".

The bishops, premising that "the pandemic has made us experience in an unexpected and dramatic way the limitation of personal and community freedoms", ask: "What is the meaning of freedom? What is its social, political and religious significance? at the start or do you become one with choices that build free and responsible bonds between people? ".

This is what we read in their Message for the Day of Life.

The bishops, in the Message for the Day for Life, underline the "value of authentic freedom, in the perspective of its exercise at the service of life: freedom is not the end, but the 'tool' for achieving one's own good and of the others, a closely interconnected good ".

For the CEI, the real issue "is not freedom, but the use of it. Freedom can destroy itself".

"A culture pervaded by absolute individual rights blinds and distorts the perception of reality, generates selfishness and abortion and euthanasia, indiscriminate interventions on the human body, on social relations and on the environment".

The bishops reiterate their 'no' to abortion underlining that "every man deserves to be born and to exist".

In the Message for the National Day for Life 2021, which will be celebrated on February 7, the CEI highlights that "saying 'yes' to life is the fulfillment of a freedom that can change history", "every human being has, from conception, a potential for good and beauty waiting to be expressed and transformed into a concrete act; a unique and unrepeatable potential, not transferable. Only by considering the 'person' as 'ultimate goal' will it be possible to regenerate the social and economic horizon , political and cultural, anthropological, educational and media ".

"The binomial 'freedom and life' is inseparable", concludes the Italian Episcopal Conference relaunching the words of Pope Francis: "every human life is unique and unrepeatable, it is valid for itself, it constitutes an inestimable value".
