 "Wait and hope".

The timeless philosophy of the Count of Monte Cristo is always valid, but more than ever in the days of the pandemic.

And even more speaks to us of what we are experiencing the motto "one for all, all for one" of the Four Musketeers.

150 years after his death, which occurs on December 5, Alexandre Dumas, the greatest French popular writer, the inventor of the serial novel, the precursor of seriality, makes us feel close to him who among other things had known the epidemic and cholera.

But to be immortal are his masterpieces, from 'The Count of Montecristo' of 1846, one of his most read novels in Italy, to the trilogy of the Musketeers, which started in 1844 with 'The Three Musketeers' which accompanied many generations in childhood and in adulthood, he makes Umberto Eco say that "we cannot escape from this inheritance, just as we cannot escape from the Magi".

And although the quality of the writing has suffered from the cadence of the serialized stories, his novels have thrilled readers as never before and have inspired many films including George Sidney's 1948 'The Three Musketeers',' The Mask of ferro 'by Randall Wallace in 1998 and in 2018' Musketeers of the king-The penultimate mission 'by Giovanni Veronesi who recently finished filming' Tutti per 1-1 per tutti 'with Pierfrancesco Favino in the role of D'Artagnan, with Valerio Mastandrea and Rocco Papaleo and with Margherita Buy who returns in the role of Queen Anne of Austria.

The film will be on December 25 on Sky Cinema and streaming Now Tv.

The father of the feuilleton had a bevy of collaborators who helped him write, including Gérard de Nerval.

Born in Villers-Cotterets on July 24, 1802 and died in Neuville -Les -Dieppe on December 5, 1870, Dumas became famous first as a playwright than as a writer and was a great lover of Italy.

He lived in Florence and Naples, where he created the newspaper L'Indipendente, in which he wrote from 1860 to 1864.

He participated in the movements of the Risorgimento, frequented the Italian patriots in exile in Paris, the Giovine Italia, the Carbonari, up to become friends with Garibaldi and his official biographer.

Our country has entered many of his novels, just remember that 'The Count of Montecristo' is set for a third in Rome.

An app was dedicated to a path 'In the footsteps of the Count of Montecristo in Rome' which will be presented on December 5, on the 150th anniversary of his death, in a culinary event with dishes inspired by the Cookbook written by Dumas, organized by Gli Esploratori, the Roman literary restaurant, wine shop and bookshop of Edizioni E / O, with La Société des Amis d'Alexandre Dumas.

At the evening, the comic 'Le Comte de Montecristo' by Carlo Rispoli, published by Edizioni Segni d'Autore, will also be available as a preview.

Among the many events planned, the exhibition 'Dumas, Italy in the heart' curated by Jocelyn Fiorina, at a date to be set for the pandemic and the 'Tribute to Alexandre Dumas' in a conference, which was held on 12 October 2020 at Palazzo Farnese in Rome, where the writer's leading expert, the French historian Claude Schopp, spoke, who claimed that "today Dumas would be an author of a TV series".

Son of a general of the French Revolution, known in France as "General Dumas", who died when the writer was three and a half, Alexandre Dumas was raised by his mother, Marie-Louise Elisabeth Labouret, who ran a small tobacco shop.

He also worked in the hotel of his maternal grandfather, Charles Labouret where he was initiated into the kitchen as evidenced by the Great Dictionary of Cuisine published posthumously in 1873.

At the age of 21 he entered the service of Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans as a copyist, thanks to his calligraphy.

An activity that he left when he began to have success with his plays for the theater.

His 'Henry III and his court', performed at the Comédie Française in 1829 and acclaimed by the public, was the first example of romantic drama.

The son who has the same name is the author of 'The Lady of the Camellias'.
