(ANSA) - PERUGIA, 05 DEC - The crypt of San Benedetto, in the undergrounds of what remains of the Basilica of Norcia, has been secured with a tangle of steel tubes called to support the walls. ANSA entered the Basilica, then descended into the crypt and then looked out, at due distance, on the ancient monastery still in danger. It was possible thanks to the Superintendence of Fine Arts of Umbria. "When we entered immediately after the earthquake - recalls the director of works, the engineer Giuseppe Lacava - we were faced with a wall of rubble and finds of great value up to 4 meters high. In recent days we have completed the last phase of emptying, perhaps the most complicated since we intervened in the crypt ". "The three phases that led to the emptying and the insecurity of the Basilica - adds the engineer - were also preliminary to making the building immediately available to the designers and then proceeding to the construction site".
