(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 06 - The German police intend to return to Portugal to continue the investigation into the Madeleine McCann case after receiving information deemed reliable by some British tourists who were in the country during the period of the child's disappearance in 2007.
The Daily Mail writes today, stressing that investigators are confident that they can indict the main suspect - Christian Brueckner - for the disappearance of the three-year-old girl.
Brueckner, 43, had been extradited from Portugal twice for sexual offenses against minors and is currently incarcerated in Germany for drug-related offenses.
"German investigators have received excellent information in recent weeks, especially from British tourists who were in Praia da Luz at the time of Madeleine's disappearance," said a source close to the case: "This is why they want to return to Portugal as soon as possible to try forward in the investigation ".
Scotland Yard, meanwhile, continues to treat the case as a missing person, even though German police believe Maddie was killed.
