Massive Covid-19 tests: what we know about the campaigns in Le Havre, Saint-Etienne and in the North

2020-12-08T03:22:14.783Z

Large-scale screening operations will be carried out in three metropolises in the coming weeks. We start to know a little more

Tomorrow, all tested?

This will soon be possible, in theory, in Le Havre, Saint-Etienne, and in a town in the Lille metropolis.

These three agglomerations were chosen by the government for the first massive but voluntary screening experiments for Covid-19, recommended by the Scientific Council.

They will take place in December or January.

“Others will follow,” Olivier Véran already said on Twitter on Thursday.

The Minister of Health displays the objective of "identifying the sources of the spread of Covid-19" and "breaking the chains of contamination".

We are preparing massive screening operations with local authorities in Le Havre, Saint-Étienne and in a town in the Lille metropolitan area.

Others will follow.

Our objective: to identify the foci of diffusion of # covid19, to break the chains of contamination.

Here is what we know, at this time, about these three test campaigns.

Le Havre

When?

From 14 to 19 December, said the mayor of the city Edouard Philippe in a video posted Friday on the YouTube channel of the town.

Or ?

Doctors, pharmacists and businesses will be encouraged to take samples on their premises.

In addition, around twenty dedicated centers will be specially set up and equipped for the occasion.

They will be located in Le Havre of course, but also in other towns in the metropolis, including Harfleur, Octeville-sur-Mer, and Étretat.

For who?

The former head of government wants to "target a very significant part of the 270,000 inhabitants of the urban community" of Le Havre.

Edouard Philippe promises results "in twenty minutes", suggesting that only antigenic tests will be used.

For a PCR test, you have to wait a day or two in the vast majority of cases to know if you are positive.

Saint Etienne

When?

The operation will take place "in mid-January, to prepare for deconfinement" and "it will be followed by a second campaign of massive tests two to three weeks later", said the mayor of the city, Gaël Perdriau, to AFP this Saturday.

Or?

Very few details are yet known.

What we already know, however, is that it will be preceded by another large-scale screening operation planned for the entire Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region.

This, wanted by the president of the community Laurent Wauquiez, is scheduled from December 14 to 23 with 1,000 sampling centers.

Testing yourself before Christmas means protecting your loved ones.

Cars in rural areas, town hall squares, high schools, large companies ... all over the region, we are deploying screening centers.

In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, we prefer to test rather than confine.

- Laurent Wauquiez (@laurentwauquiez) December 2, 2020

Gaël Perdriau saw it as a “contradiction” since “a territory is only eligible for the massive screening desired by the government if

no other operation of this type has yet been launched

”, he wrote. to the director of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes regional health agency.

For who ?

There too, we do not know yet.

Regarding the regional operation launched in mid-December, "10,000 staff" will be hired to take samples, Laurent Wauquiez said at a press conference on Friday.

Lille metropolis

When?

No official announcement has yet been made.

The professor at the Lille University Hospital Philippe Froguel pleads for the month of January, as in Saint-Etienne.

And this for two reasons.

“On the one hand, you have to see what will happen during the holidays in the North, which is a large region of exchange, to have a more detailed picture of the epidemiological situation.

On the other hand, we do not want to do only antigenic tests but also saliva tests and group tests, so we must have the time to put them in place, ”explains the one who sent Emmanuel Macron a note on this. subject of massive screening.

Or?

The precise location remains unknown.

According to initial leaks, it is in Lille that the massive screening was going to be organized.

In reality, the only thing certain at this stage is that it will be in "a town in the Lille metropolitan area", announce the authorities.

“We pleaded for Lille and Roubaix, which Olivier Véran also told us by videoconference.

According to the latest news, we would rather be in Roubaix alone ”, indicates Philippe Froguel.

A meeting led by the Regional Health Authority is scheduled for next Tuesday to set the framework for the operation.

For who ?

If Roubaix was ultimately chosen, its 120,000 inhabitants would potentially be affected.

"The idea is to test everyone", slips Philippe Froguel, while being well aware that all the inhabitants will not necessarily wish it.
