"I will be the first to give myself the Russian vaccine," said President Alberto Fernández this Thursday morning during a press conference, with the aim of
generating confidence in the Argentine population
regarding a vaccine that was the first to be announced in the world, but that raises some doubts.
The main doubt about the Russian vaccine arose when that country decided to
skip phase 3
, essential in any clinical trial.
Later, a "secret" Argentine mission, headed by Carla Vizzotti, one of the top leaders of the Ministry of Health, traveled to Russia to learn about the development of the drug, which did not add transparency to the issue either.
In a statement, the ANMAT (the body that authorizes medicines in Argentina) detailed this Thursday that officials will travel to the Russian Federation this Saturday.
However, until now it has not been reported that there has been a
request for authorization
from Russia to market the vaccine in the country.
So far
the only laboratory that did it was Pfizer.
Argentina is not the only country that has signed an agreement with Russia to obtain its vaccine.
In principle,
300 thousand doses before the end of the year and another 20 million doses between January and February
.
However, in the list of countries that requested it, there are almost no European, North American or Oceanic countries.
The Direct Investment Fund of Russia (RDIF) informed
Clarín
that so far the agreements have been signed with India, South Korea, Venezuela, Egypt, Nepal, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mexico and two states of Brazil: Bahia and Paraná.

They explained that in some countries agreements were made
with laboratories
and in others they were at the government level, as would be the case in Argentina, the Brazilian states, Venezuela and Belarus.
The Minister of Health, Ginés González García, admitted in the same press conference on Thursday that the possibility of reaching a purchase agreement with the Pfizer laboratory is still immature.
And that is why the
only possibility of safe access
to the vaccine is for now that offered by Russia.
From Monday to Friday of next week, ANMAT technicians
will visit the plants of the Gamleya Institute
-developer of the Sputnik V vaccine- and Generium, which is part of its production process.
During the visits, as reported, the
technical verification
of the establishments and the manufacturing processes used in the products will be carried out.
