“It can happen to anyone.
The British singer FKA Twig has launched legal proceedings against her ex-companion, actor Shia LaBeouf, for numerous violence, both physical and psychological, suffered during the year 2019, reveals the New York Times on Friday.
According to the complaint, which the American newspaper could consult, it is several months of suffering that the singer would have endured, months during which she would have been isolated, beaten, and sexually assaulted.
She says in particular that she received numerous bruises when Shia LaBeouf grabbed her or hugged her, or was strangled in her sleep.
The singer also recounts having lived under the strong psychological influence of Shia LaBeouf, who, gradually, made sure to isolate her from her entourage, even from the rest of the world.
He forbade her, in particular, to speak to male waiters, and had taught her to lower her eyes when a man spoke to her.
Shia LaBeouf had also set many rules in their relationship, such as how many times she had to kiss and touch him each day.
"I'm ashamed of it"
In response, the actor did not formally acknowledge the facts in question to The New York Times, but expressed his apologies.
“I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.
[…] I am ashamed of it and I apologize to those I hurt.
I can't say anything else, ”he wrote to the American newspaper.
It's not the only time the Hollywood star has been accused of violence.
In the same complaint, another ex-companion of the actor recounts having also suffered violence from him.
In a video shot in 2015 by passers-by, we also see the actor arguing with his companion at the time, actress Mia Goth, where he threatens her, recalls the New York Times.
“If I had stayed, I would have killed her,” he says later in the video, as he is escorted back by men who witness the scene.
If FKA Twigs, Tahliah Debrett Barnett, whose real name is, has chosen to make this affair public, it is also to raise public awareness of the issue of violence against women in the couple, too trivialized according to her.
She remembers in particular an incident where Shia LaBeouf was violent towards her in a service station, in public.
No one had come to her aid then.

An incident that initially discouraged her from talking about her experience.
“I figured no one was going to believe me.
I am unconventional.
And I am a person of color, a woman ”, underlines the artist, who was able to leave the actor after many threats and thanks to the support of a therapist.
In her complaint, she also declares that she wants to donate part of her possible gains in the trial to associations fighting against domestic violence.
