(ANSA) - BOLZANO, 11 DEC - The Austrian Constitutional Court has rejected the banning of the Islamic headscarf for children in primary schools, introduced in 2019 by the then "Kurz 1" government, made up of the popular Oevp and the ultra-right Fpoe.
The provision - the Court establishes - intervenes on a single religion, Islam, without a precise motivation, thus contradicting the principle of religious neutrality of the State. Education Minister Heinz Fassmann of Oevp (who now governs with the Greens) took note of the sentence, regretting however that "girls will not have the opportunity to carry out the training process free from constraints".
