(ANSA) - ROME, 11 DEC - With the third position announced by the top 100 of Wine Spectator, the special ranking on the best wines of the planet drawn up as every year by the most influential American magazine in the world, a Brunello di Montalcino returns to the podium and stands, in the "Bible" of overseas winelovers, as the best Italian wine.

In fact, if the top of the top 100 this year goes to a Spanish wine, San Filippo's Brunello di Montalcino Le Lucére 2015 is in first place among Italian wines.

The owner of the San Filippo company, Roberto Giannelli, from Florence, was involved in real estate trading until about twenty years ago.

The world of wine had caressed him when, with friends, he had visited some cellars.

Then, in 2003, "they asked me for an opinion to put the San Filippo company on the market, - Giannelli says on the Consorzio website - and in the end I decided to buy it. Of course, it wasn't a joke. I was 37 years old and let's talk about a property of 22 hectares of which 10 are vineyards. But the banking system at that time helped you, I had the support of some producers. And then, I simply fell in love with Montalcino. So I sold my holdings and launched into the world of wine, measuring myself with one of the most prestigious wine areas ".

Great satisfaction expressed by the president of the Consorziodel Vino Brunello di Montalcino, Fabrizio Bindocci: "We are delighted with this recognition because he will give an important hand to the whole denomination and we congratulate a company, San Filippo, which, as in our best tradition, has long pursued quality But we are also particularly proud of our 2015 vintage which allowed us to limit the damage in this tragic year. It is a product - he added - that amazes for an average quality perhaps unprecedented, but which must share the scene with 2016, a year considered extraordinary even before being put on the market ".

128 Brunello di Montalcino 2015 have achieved the highest awards this year from seven of the main Italian wine guides (Ais Vitae, Bibenda, Cernilli, GamberoRosso, Slow Wine, Touring, Veronelli);

it is a result that finds few precedents in the modern history of sector rankings.
