Austria: Constitutional Court allows assisted suicide

(ANSA) - BOLZANO, 11 DEC - The Austrian Constitutional Court has declared the punishment of assisted suicide unconstitutional.

The offense is contrary to the right to self-determination, the Supreme Court establishes in a sentence made public in the evening.

Murder on demand remains prohibited.

The policy will now have to establish the new regulatory framework within a year, given that the ban on assisted suicide will be suspended on January 1, 2022, informs the APA agency.
