In October alone, in Italy, Tik Tok detected 68 videos with false health information and 464 videos with violations linked to the pandemic.
These are some of the data contained in the latest report on the assessment of the impact of the actions taken by the signatories of the Code of Conduct against disinformation, published by the EU Commission.
In general, the EU executive promotes Google, Microsoft, Tik Tok, Facebook and Twitter, which show that they have made progress in the fight against fake news and misleading information on coronavirus and vaccines.
This work "increases the transparency of online platforms and represents a step forward in the right direction," said Vice President of the EU Commission, Vera Jourova.
In October, Tik Tok blocked 1,300 videos with medical fake news and labeled 81,385 videos about the coronavirus, spread across Italy, Germany, France and Spain, redirecting people to reliable sources about the pandemic.
In the same month, Microsoft blocked more than 1.4 million deceptive coronavirus adverts from being displayed.
While in the same period, Facebook and Instagram removed 28 thousand posts with incorrect information on the coronavirus.
"Safe and efficient vaccines are close at hand, - said EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton - it is essential that these scientific efforts are not undermined by disinformation campaigns aimed at citizens, which fuel fear and sow mistrust" .
