Harrison Ford to style Indiana Jones hat for fifth and final film

At 78, the actor will return to complete the journey of his legendary character. Steven Spielberg will give way behind the camera to James Mangold, director of Logan and Le Mans 66. A final part scheduled for 2022.


Harrison Ford, 78, will once again don the iconic Indiana Jones hat for the fifth and final installment of The Adventures of the Intrepid Archaeologist, due in theaters in 2022, Disney has officially announced.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said at a conference hosted by the Disney group for its investors.

Unlike previous episodes, Steven Spielberg, initially planned as a director but since relegated to production, will no longer be behind the camera.

Instead, it is James Mangold (

Logan

,

Le Mans 66

) who will be in charge of the fifth and final installment of the saga, said Kathleen Kennedy.

Filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2021 for a release scheduled for July 2022.

It was in 1981 that Harrison Ford, already made famous at the time for his role as Han Solo in

Star Wars

, took on the role of Indiana Jones in

Raiders of the Lost Ark

, under the leadership of Steven Spielberg .

A worldwide success, the film gave rise to two other equally popular episodes in the aftermath,

Indiana Jones

and the Temple of Doom

in 1984 and

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

in 1989, with the late Sean Connery as the father of the archaeologist.

A fourth installment,

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

, a financial success but received freshly by the critics and part of the fans of the first hour, was released in 2008, still with Harrison Ford.

Disney had announced in 2016 the continuation and end of Indy's adventures with a release initially scheduled for 2019, but the project has accumulated delays due to differences between the producers, the writers and Steven Spielberg, then more recently the Covid pandemic -19 which upset the calendar of big Hollywood productions.
