The Swedish Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia are expecting their third child together.

«We are happy and full of expectation and look forward to welcoming our third child, a sibling to Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel.

A new little member for our family », the couple was quoted in a message from the Swedish royal family.

It is expected that the offspring will be born at the end of March or the beginning of April next year, the message said.

The news is initially of only marginal importance for the succession to the throne: 41-year-old Carl Philip is the younger brother of Sweden's heir to the throne Victoria.

The Swedish public is likely to be very interested in the state of health of the pregnant princess and her unborn child: The prince couple announced just two weeks ago that they had both tested positive for the corona virus.

Pregnancy in the pandemic

The prince and his 36-year-old wife had gone into quarantine at home with their children with milder symptoms, according to a statement at the end of November.

The corona infection was then determined.

The two were doing well according to the circumstances.

Sweden had taken a different path than most European countries in fighting the corona virus.

At the beginning of the pandemic, the government chose a liberal course and relied on citizens to take responsibility for themselves - in the hope of achieving herd immunity as soon as possible.

While there were massive restrictions on public life in Germany and other countries, bars and restaurants remained open in the Scandinavian country.

Recently, however, the government changed its course: Contrary to the forecasts of the state virologist Anders Tegnell, the number of infections rose sharply again.
