(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 13 - "Inclusion and diversity", also understood as an "element of sexual orientation, religious diversity" and obviously as a "multicultural element": distinctive traits of Netflix culture that Eleonora Andreatta, former director of Rai Fiction and from June vice president of the Italian original series, he intends to develop new projects for the platform that reaches 190 countries.
He explained this in his speech at the Year to come, the new Repubblica festival, in streaming on the newspaper's website.
"The multicultural element that in England and many other countries has been told by cinema and TV for many years now, arrives very late in Italy", Andreatta stressed, answering Silvia Fumarola's questions.
And he cited the example of "Zero, a new series that will air in spring and has as its protagonist a second generation boy who lives in the suburbs of Milan. One aspect we kept was choosing a director, among the group of directors who directed the series, whether it was a second generation: even those who are behind the camera can best represent a story in which the boy feels invisible, as a second generation but also a young man who, like all twenty-year-olds, has difficulty making friends or finds it difficult love. It is a story that talks about a specific story but has a wider meaning ", he stressed.
The lines of the Netflix story will continue to take inspiration from the novels: in addition to The lying life of adults by Elena Ferrante, Loyalty by Marco Missiroli will be adapted.
"Literature offers possible worlds and characters that have a particular richness, who manage to summarize events or situations that have a universal value in a meaningful way", said Andreatta, explaining that "at this moment a multiplicity of projects are being examined, including many based on novels. A way of working that I really like, because the contemporary novel of seriality is born from literature ".
For the future, Andreatta hopes that Italy will be able to "lay the foundations for new growth" and do so "by focusing on young people, because they are our future".
