(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 13 - The WHO and the European Commission have convened for tomorrow the ACT, Accelerator Facilitation Council, the operational organization to accelerate the development, production and fair access to tests, treatments and vaccines COVID-19 .
The summit will serve to review the strategic priorities and the proposed funding framework for addressing the ACT financial deficit for 2021. WHO and its partners are focusing on three priorities: financing the purchase of divaccini for the countries that need it most, as it is currently estimated that $ 4.3 billion is needed, ensure political commitment to equitable access to vaccines and assess infrastructure gaps that could slow the effective distribution of vaccines.
Almost one billion doses of the tested trevaccines have already been guaranteed under the COVAX mechanism, a worldwide program for the distribution of the vaccine promoted by Gavi, Cepi and the World Health Organization.
"Closing the funding gap is an urgent priority," said Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
