A train trip through the country and a visit to the theater with the children: What seems absurd for most Brits because of the corona pandemic, Prince William is doing with his family.
The heir to the throne and his wife have shown themselves with all three children on the red carpet in the Palladium Theater in London's West End to pay tribute to people from "systemically relevant professions".
Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, marveled at actors in front of the entrance who had dressed up as elves before they saw the play "Pantoland".
The Friday evening performance was intended for people with systemically important jobs and their families.
"You have all done a lot this year and made considerable sacrifices," William said in a brief address.
The Prince and Duchess Kate had already traveled by train through the country this week to thank people for their commitment to the pandemic.
The regional governments in Scotland and Wales, however, doubted the sense of this tour in times when the freedom of movement of the general population is severely restricted due to the crisis.
In some places, the greetings turned out to be frosty: it was better if "no one made unnecessary visits," said a Welsh official.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, however, defended the trip, calling it "most valuable".
Great Britain is one of the most severely affected by the pandemic in Europe.
More than 60,000 people have already died from or with Covid 19 disease.
Britain became the first country to start mass vaccination in December.
