The second phase of the Israeli vaccine trial for Corona, developed at the Biological Institute, will begin next Sunday, December 20.
At this stage, about a thousand experimenters will participate, half of whom will receive the vaccine dose and half of whom will receive a placebo.
At this point the safety of the vaccine will be examined in more people as well as the amount of antibodies that will remain in the bodies of the experimenters.
Towards the beginning of Phase B of the trial at Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital, Dr. Erez Barenbaum, the hospital's director general, clarifies that experimenters will not be denied the opportunity to be vaccinated with Pfizer's vaccine.
"The experiment has so far been approached by many dozens of candidates, who wanted to take part in a groundbreaking, blue-and-white procedure. The trial procedure will not impair any patient's opportunity and ability to receive Pfizer's vaccine, if and when interested. As such, the experimenter's file will be opened. Phase B of the trial will take place in parallel at a number of medical centers across the country, and is designed to complete vaccine safety tests, pinpoint the correct doses and continue to test measures of its effectiveness.
The third and extensive phase of the experiment is expected to begin in April-May.
At this stage, up to 30,000 volunteers will participate.
This is the last stage, after its successful completion it will be possible to approve the vaccine and vaccinate the entire population.
