MONTALTO NELLE MARCHE (ASCOLI PICENO) - There is also the restoration of the sacred vestments of Pope Sixtus V, born Felice Peretti, among the various events organized to celebrate the fifth centenary of his birth which will fall on 13 December 2021. It is a frontal , cope, chasuble, two cassocks, corporal bag, stoles and handpieces kept in the Sistine Museum of Montalto delle Marche.

The initiative is sponsored by the online art magazine "Predella" (Eis, Pisa) whose directors Gerardo De Simone and Emanuele Pellegrini responded to the appeal on the interest of the art historian Alessandro Delpriori.

It deals with the restoration of goods damaged by the earthquake.

The seat of the Sistine Museum of Montalto in fact suffered heavy damage from the 2016 earthquake, the reconstruction begins in 2021.

"On the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of the birth of Sixtus V - says Paola Di Girolami, director of the Sistine Museums of Piceno, of the Diocese of San Benedetto - the directors of 'Predella' wanted to give a sign of closeness to the Sistine lands, earthquake-stricken lands, custodians of works that over time have made the history of sacred art ".

The 10 locations of the Sistine Museums of the Piceno are now closed due to the anti Covid restrictions, so "during the holidays we will virtually open the doors to citizens" starting from Sunday 13 December, 499 / o birth anniversary and day dedicated to Saint Lucia, to which Pope Peretti "was very attached, as evidenced also by a detail, hitherto unknown, of the reliquary (13th-14th centuries) of French goldsmiths.
