After the lockdown decision by the federal and state governments, parents should be able to take additional paid leave.
Is the Corona vacation coming now?
From Wednesday, December 16, Germany will be back in a “hard lockdown”.
The federal and state governments agreed on massive restrictions on public life on Sunday after the infection situation with Covid-19 * had worsened dramatically in almost all of Germany.
That also means that
daycare centers and schools are closing
, in many federal states even from this Monday.
Although there is to be some emergency care, the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder appealed to the parents concerned to only take advantage of the offer “if it cannot be organized otherwise”.
For many, that means: working from home with children or taking a vacation.
But at the end of the year the vacation days are mostly used up.

Corona vacation for parents?
The federal government is planning this
A report by the German Press Agency at least nourishes the hope of many parents who have been battered by the crisis year.
Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) is already working on regulations for additional leave for the parents concerned.
Details would be discussed by Monday,
the report says.
As much as affected parents would be happy about a few days extra vacation - the prospect of Corona vacation poses additional problems for its employees for retailers.
There would simply be a lack of staff in supermarkets and the like.
The managing director of the German Retail Association (HDE), Stefan Genth, therefore warned in an interview with Die
Welt
: “We need emergency care for the children of the employees in the supermarkets, which are part of the critical infrastructure for supplying the population. "
Parents are entitled to compensation for loss of earnings
But no matter how the regulations for the Corona vacation turn out: Those who cannot work due to daycare and school closings are entitled to compensation in the event of loss of earnings.
The Infection Protection Act provides for this.
This regulation had already been made in the first lockdown in spring.
