The national government authorized this Monday the domestic service personnel of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) to

use public transport

to go to their places of work, as a new measure to make social distancing more flexible due to the coronavirus.

Administrative Decision 2182/2020, of the Cabinet Headquarters, was published in the Official Gazette and will take effect this Monday.

Despite the recent introduction of compulsory preventive social distancing (DISPO), the use of public transport in the City of Buenos Aires and in Greater Buenos Aires continues to be restricted to essential workers.

Other activities exempted from distancing may attend their workplaces, but it is the employer who must guarantee their own means of transport.

The new regulations, in Article 1, exempt from the prohibition "personnel who carry out tasks in private homes".

Thus, these workers

will be able to use trains, buses and subways

, although only to fulfill their labor obligations.

The personnel reached by this measure must process the

"Unique Enabling Certificate for Circulation - COVID-19 Emergency"

, which is managed on the argentina.gob.ar/circular site.

In October, the domestic services staff had returned to their duties with strict protocols at the AMBA, after the break due to the quarantine decreed in March.

The two main conditions were that they work in a single address (the union requested that it be one house per day) and that they move with the use of private vehicles.

Now, this last limitation is relaxed.

It is expected that among the announcements of the next stage of DISPO in the City and in Greater Buenos Aires - it would be Monday, December 21 - there will be more news about the public passenger transport network: the authorization for all workers can use it.

At the end of November, a group of private house workers demanded the reinstatement of dismissed workers in quarantine.

"We are awaiting the conclusion of the current DNU to see if we can extend this use to all users," said Mario Meoni, Minister of Transportation of the Nation, on Saturday.

The official explained that, although in general the employer must provide mobility for workers, in many cases this obligation is not fulfilled, which generates "serious inconveniences for users who need public passenger transport."

"Based on the notable decline in the pandemic in the AMBA, there is the possibility that people can

travel without risk of contagion

and I think we should make it possible for people to travel," Meoni continued on CNN Radio.

Likewise, he remarked, the restrictions would continue for those who wish to mobilize for social or leisure reasons.
