This past weekend, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer's corona vaccine, and later this week it will likely approve the Modern company's vaccine as well.

At the same time, we here in Israel are preparing for an extensive vaccination campaign.

Having answered your questions about vaccine safety (yes, it is safe), it's time to address the many questions about the day after.

Will our lives get back on track?

Prof. Johnny Gershuni, an expert from the Shmonis School of Biomedical Research and Cancer Research at Tel Aviv University, responds.

The fear of the corona vaccine is clear, but that is why one should get vaccinated

First, it is important to clarify that a vaccinated person's chances of getting sick are dramatically lower compared to an unvaccinated person, and if he does get sick, his illness is likely to be significantly milder.

At this point, it is still unclear whether a person who is vaccinated will not be able to be infected with the virus and spread viruses without himself becoming ill.

Will we continue to wear a mask and keep our distance after vaccination?

Right now, it seems so.

Over time, as we learn more and more about the effects of vaccines when it comes to spreading the virus, we hope we can get rid of the obligation to wear a mask, while confident that those vaccinated are not a source of virus spread.

Until then it must be preserved.

At the same time, as more people are vaccinated and we realize the benefits of the vaccine, we will be able to move around more freely and without all the restrictions that exist today.

In the meantime, they stay with us.

Can children under the age of 12, who will not be vaccinated in the first instance, be able to visit their grandparents who have been vaccinated?

When grandparents get vaccinated, they can host their loved ones more confidently.

That is, whether the visitors were vaccinated or not, and whether they were young or old.

Eventually, the grandparents' vaccine will protect them from all the guests who visit them, regardless of age or family closeness.

Easy and material, if the visitors are also vaccinated.

However, as long as we are in the learning stages of the vaccine, it is still advisable to observe the rules of hygiene and wearing the masks.

In other words, it is advisable to meet with the grandchildren, but to do so in a restrained and informed manner.

Will it be possible to allow cultural events to be opened only to people who have been vaccinated?

First, it is a matter of policy, not in my field.

However, in my humble opinion, the more people are protected and carry “green passports” (i.e., vaccinated) the more it will be possible to open cultural events to the protected public, while adhering to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.

The more citizens we are vaccinated against, the better the quality of life for all of us will be and the faster we will be able to return to a safe and secure life.

After we vaccinate ourselves, can we take care of a relative who has had corona?

The fact is that even today, medical staff treat corona patients without vaccinating themselves, thanks to the safe behavior of wearing masks and maintaining hygiene.

That is, maintaining these rules of protection is effective as a means of protecting us from infection.

It is clear that if you also get vaccinated, the protection is all the more effective.

So, can I take care of my visitors if they start in Corona?

The answer is that it is still advisable to wear masks and hygiene, but it will be possible to do so, knowing that the chances of being infected are dramatically small, thanks to the vaccine.
