There are viruses that promote cancer - such as some representatives of the human papillomavirus, or HPV for short.

Swedish researchers have now investigated the effect of an HPV vaccination.

  • Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Germany after cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks or strokes.

But the mortality of these two disease groups is falling, as the Robert Koch Institute informs.

  • Among other things, this has to do with better medical care: In the treatment of cancer *, medical professionals now have completely different options than they did 20 years ago.

  • With regard to cervical cancer, vaccination should protect against cancer later.

The controversial vaccination has now been classified as useful cancer protection in a Swedish study

    .

HP viruses can be transmitted during sexual intercourse and are usually harmless.

However, some types of virus can be responsible for the development of cervical cancer and tumors in the mouth, throat or anus.

The Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) therefore recommends: "

The vaccination effectively protects against the most dangerous HPV types and thus lowers the risk of these cancers

".

However, one should be vaccinated before the first sexual intercourse, as this is the only way to ensure the best possible protection, according to the BZgA.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) recommends vaccination against HPV for girls aged 9 to 14 and, since June 2018, also for all boys of this age.

But that calls vaccination opponents on the scene,

warning of possible vaccine damage.

Many parents ask themselves: should I get my child vaccinated against HPV?

Vaccination against HPV: "The modern vaccine even contains antigens from nine virus strains"

Swedish researchers are certain: an HPV vaccination protects against HPV-related cervical cancer.

Scientists working with Jiayao Lei from the Regional Cancer Center in Stockholm Gotland evaluated the Swedish health and population registry with data on over 1.6 million girls and women from 2006 to 2017.

The clear result: of

the 518,319 women in the analysis who were vaccinated against HPV before their 18th birthday, only 19 contracted cancer of the cervix

.

Of the 528,347 women in the evaluation without vaccination, however, 538 women developed the cancer - which is 30 times as much.

“These data confirm what has been known for many years from Australia, for example: the HPV vaccination protects against infection with the most dangerous human papilloma viruses;

it also protects against the precancerous stages, which has been known for many years.

Nonetheless, critics kept claiming that cancer itself might not become any less rare.

These concerns have now been clearly refuted ”, quoted the portal gynecologists in the network Dr.

med.

Christian Albring, President of the Professional Association of Gynecologists.

It is known that the sooner the vaccination is carried out, the more reliable it is

.

Hence the recommendation to have children - girls and boys - vaccinated against HPV infections at the age of 9-14 years.

"The vaccinations are still paid for up to the 18th birthday," says gynecologist Albring: "The modern vaccine even contains antigens from nine virus strains and is therefore still superior to the vaccination that was used in Sweden during the study period."
