Almost a year after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, nightlife has resumed in Wuhan, the city in central China where the first cases of coronavirus were detected in January 2020.

Nightclubs, bars, outdoor dances and meals with friends: Activities have resumed for the residents of Wuhan, while many cities around the world must comply with strict containment measures just days before Christmas.

“During the period of the epidemic, Wuhan was truly a dead city.

But after it reopened, I had never seen so many people, ”explains Yi Yi, a resident of the city.

“We take good precautions now, and when we go out, we wear masks and we have to wash our hands.

Now, I no longer feel tense, ”said Ms. Liu, who had come to dance with a few other people on a square in Wuhan.

The city of 11 million people has not reported a new locally transmitted case since May 10, after suffering one of the strictest lockdowns in the world.
