(ANSA-AFP) - MANILA, DEC 19 - At least two people were killed in the impact of a storm on the Philippines, where hundreds of people (a completely provisional toll speaks of at least 290) have seen their homes destroyed by frugal mudslides or flooded in a village on the islet of Lapu-Lapu, part of the central province of Cebu, the first of the Southeast Asian archipelago to be hit.
The mayor of Lapu-Lapu himself, JunardChan, is gambling the budget.
In photos circulated on the media and on social networks you can see piles of bamboo and wood left by the fury of the wind and water.
The only two victims so far ascertained are two elderly women, swept away by mud in the middle of the night in the village of Mahaplag, in the nearby province of Leyte, where a child was instead extracted alive.
In the province of Mindanao, where water has invaded at least 13 villages, about 1,500 people have evacuated their homes as a precaution.
The current storm is just the latest in a series, which this year alone has left behind a toll of at least 148 deaths and thousands of homes destroyed in the Philippines, which each year is hit by an average of 20 typhoons and tropical storms.
