Green light from the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to the Moderna vaccine against Covid-19.
The FDA's ok means that the vaccine can be distributed in the United States to those over 18 years old, reads the note from the government agency.
"With the approval of two vaccines, the FDA has taken another crucial step in the fight against the global pandemic," said Commissioner Stephen Hahn.
"Through the transparent and scientific review process, two vaccines were approved quickly in compliance with stringent safety standards," he adds.
"We remain focused on upgrading production to help protect as many people as possible from this terrible disease," said Stéphane Bancel, Moderna's chief executive soon after the FDA decision. Delivery to the US government will begin immediately, the company said in a statement.
