Two corona vaccines are about to be approved in the EU, now the question of the vaccination sequence is loud.

The Standing Vaccination Commission recommends the 6-step principle.

  • The coronavirus pandemic triggered the second lockdown in Germany, as the number of infections reached new highs in autumn and winter.

  • In order to contain the spread of Covid-19, it is mandatory to wear a mask in many public spaces such as public transport.

  • But the greatest hope lies in the development of a vaccine against corona.

Two preparations are about to be approved in the EU.

The first plans are now being presented on the sequence to be followed when vaccinating citizens.

The subject of “vaccinations” is a sensitive one.

And it regularly causes discussions, for example when there is a compulsory vaccination in the room.

With regard to the corona vaccination, the following currently applies:

There is no explicit compulsory vaccination planned,

but vaccination opponents must also ask themselves the question: What can be more dangerous for me: A severe Covid 19 disease course or a vaccination with a clinically proven vaccine?

Many virologists like Christian Drosten from the Charité in Berlin see the vaccination as the only way to get back to normal - and to prevent hard lockdowns, travel restrictions and other Corona-related measures in the future.

In the European Union, two vaccines are about to be approved *: One candidate comes from the Mainz-based company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer.

The other vaccine was developed by the US company Moderna, as the Tagesschau informed.

According to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the Moderna preparation should be approved in mid-January,

while

Biontech's

drug will be approved by

the end of December at the earliest

.

It is considered certain that high-risk groups such as sick, old people and also medical professionals should be vaccinated against Corona first.

The Standing Vaccination Commission has now submitted a proposal for a fixed sequence that provides for six categories.

Corona vaccination in six stages: first proposal for the sequence is presented

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) at the Robert Koch Institute has created six categories into which it has classified the population according to urgency, as Tagesschau.de informs.

Age, previous illnesses and professional activity are primarily taken into account.

According to this, the following groups of people are assigned by the Stiko to the

first vaccination group with the priority "very high"

because they have a particularly high risk of severe or fatal Covid-19 courses or their job is associated with an increased likelihood of infection:

  • People over the age of 80

  • Residents and employees in nursing homes

  • Employees in the rescue service, in emergency rooms, on Covid-19 wards and medical staff who are in close contact with people who are particularly at risk

  • Nursing staff in the outpatient and inpatient area

The second vaccination group, which was given the reference “high priority” in a Stiko publication

, includes people between 76 and 80 years of age, medical staff with an increased risk of infection such as dentists and paramedics, people with dementia or intellectual disabilities and their caregivers.

In the third vaccination group

, the

Stiko

sees the following groups of people: people between 71 and 75 years of age, people with previous illnesses, their closest contact persons, close contact persons of pregnant women and residents of asylum and homeless shelters.

Even medical staff who are exposed to a moderate risk (according to Stiko, this includes dermatologists and orthopedists) belong to the third vaccination group.

The fourth category includes people between the ages of 66 and 70

, people with previous illnesses and their contact persons, teachers, educators and employees who work in the meat processing industry or in parcel service distribution centers.

People between the ages of 60 and 65, employees in the armed forces, the police, the fire brigade, waste management and also employees in local public transport belong to the

fifth vaccination group

.

With the priority “slightly increased”, employees in retail also belong to the fifth category.

Stiko places all others in the

lowest category with low priority

.

The recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission is currently being checked for feasibility and usefulness.

An ordinance on the order of the vaccination groups is to be published in December, as informed by tagesschau.de.
