The European Union will not close its doors to the United Kingdom and remains ready to negotiate beyond 1 January.

the EU chief negotiator for Brexit, Michel Barnier,
at 27 according to what is learned in Brussels.
Barnier, referring to the ambassadors of the 27, said that "progress has been made" and that "most of the problems have been preliminarily closed or are close to agreement".
However - according to EU sources -, Barnier recalled that
"differences in fisheries remain difficult to bridge
".
The Frenchman then pointed out that "unfortunately, the UK is still not moving enough to conclude a fair fisheries agreement".
"We are really in the decisive moment: we are giving a final push" to the negotiations.
"In ten days, the UK will leave the single market,
and I will continue to work in full transparency" with the 27 and the MEPs.
This was stated by Barnier before the meeting of the representatives of the member states.
