Covid, over 18 million infected. Michel comes out of self-isolation

UNITED STATES

- The United States has exceeded 18 million cases of contagion from Covid-19.

This is what emerges from the data of Johns Hopkins University.

The number of deaths since the start of the pandemic is 319,190. 

EUROPEAN UNION

- The President of the European Council Charles Michel carried out the third anti-Covid swab in a week, which was also negative, and therefore came out of self-isolation.

His spokesperson announced it.

Michel had entered solitary confinement the day President Macron broke the news of his positive swab, having met him two days earlier.  

GERMANY

- The number of new infections from Covid in Germany continues to be high, where the incidence of the virus on 100,000 inhabitants in seven days reached the maximum value of 197.6 new infected (the threshold that has been given is 50) , according to data from the Robert Koch Institut.

According to the institute, there are 19,528 new infections and 731 victims in the last 24 hours.

Germany has been in lockdown since December 16, since it tightened anti-coronavirus measures, closing shops and schools.

The situation of the pandemic in Germany continues to worsen and "many weeks will pass before we can observe a reduction in infections".

This is what the president of the Robert Koch Institut, Lothar Wieler, said at a press conference this morning in Berlin, launching yet another "stringent" appeal to avoid contact and give up travel during the Christmas holidays.

"Don't travel," Wieler explicitly said.

RUSSIA

- In the last 24 hours, 28,776 new cases of Covid-19 and 561 deaths caused by the disease have been ascertained.

The areas with the highest number of new infections are Moscow with 7,237 cases in one day, St. Petersburg with 3,760 and the Moscow region with 1,498.

The national anticoronavirus operations center reports this.

According to official data, subject to criticism, 2,906,503 cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Russia since the beginning of the epidemic and 51,912 people have died from the disease.

BOSNIA

- Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik has tested positive for coronavirus.

As reported by the Serbian media, Dodik - who is a Serbian member of the Bosnian tripartite presidency and current president of this collegiate body - is hospitalized in stable conditions with pneumonia in a hospital in Banja Luka, the capital of the Republika Srpska Serbian majority of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

CHINA

- In the Chinese city of Bengbu, in the eastern province of Anhui, traces of the new coronavirus were found on a sample taken from the packaging of a shipment of fish from India.

Local authorities report it.

The contaminated sample was identified during an inspection carried out by the city authorities on imported frozen foods and the distribution of the entire batch of goods was blocked.

City authorities launched an emergency response, sealing the frozen products and tracking 61 people who came into contact with the contaminated packaging, as well as their close contacts.

All affected individuals have been quarantined and all have tested negative for the novel coronavirus so far.

The city also warned six people who had access to the goods, but who have since left the city.
