About seven years ago, the IDF established the project I head,

"Army for the Protection of Nature - Commanders take responsibility for their environment"

(the result of cooperation between the IDF, led by the Technology and Logistics Corps, Ministry of Defense, Nature Conservation, Nature and Parks Authority) Antiquities), in order to help the IDF and its commanders to take responsibility for the preservation of the environment, nature, and heritage sites in the areas under its responsibility and in its operating environment.

So far, we have operated about 60 centers in all soldiers and arms, in the air and at sea, Mediterranean. The commanders and soldiers of the units go out to work in the unit area, receiving professional advice and guidance from the project partners, and also receive education and training content on environmental, nature and heritage issues. We established ourselves, in areas with high ecological sensitivity and training centers in the various soldiers. , Nature and heritage sites in IDF sectors.

But the year 2021, I hope, entails not only a promise of vaccination from Corona or a new government, but also a broad and long-term IDF assimilation of nature conservation.

During the activity we have seen to meet commanders of the projects in the different units, which advanced in the IDF and assigned roles have the potential to impact significantly the areas of nature, environment and heritage. We discovered an obligation peak among the noncommissioned officers, we focused them and with them, saved wildlife, for example.

In the coming year , The army will, under our guidance and direction, deal with two systemic breadth issues that constitute a significant footprint of the defense system on nature and the environment, and at the same time originate in perception or culture, ie there is a possibility of significant change - fires as a result of training and waste. The responsibility and the area, we formulated a plan to reduce fires in the fire areas, established a training system for commanders and soldiers and set a clear goal of reducing fires in training in 2021. In the

field of waste and cleaning, we formulated a plan to measure waste and recycling in the IDF and open areas.

The plan is based on the understanding that a better managed waste farm will reduce the environmental hazard.

An animal and pest control director was established

The deepening of the project's activity in the IDF system joins a comprehensive trend of thinking and openness on the issue of nature and the environment in the IDF system and evidence, for the first time in 2020, in the Order of Chiefs of Staff in about 130 IDF units, led by In addition, there was a waste separation and recycling competition in the IDF, an animal and pest control director was established, and the IDF employs about 30 professional veterinarians, an environmental protection branch was established in the Technology and Logistics Division and an environmental hazard center. And the kindergartens and the IDF to manage the common areas and redefined the field of occupation in the Education Corps.

This, along with trends that rise from the bottom up, such as the establishment of independent, semi-military forums, of soldiers and commanders who initiate change in the field of plastics and the environmental crisis while developing means of information and working with various system factors to promote the field.

All of these constitute multipliers of the assimilation of the messages of the project in the IDF system.

Love of the land, the landscape, nature, the environment, knowledge of the heritage and the action according to them, form the basis for the connection between the IDF and environmental organizations in Israel.

In 2020, we proved that the Israel Defense Forces can also be the Nature Defense Army and that its soldiers and commanders protect the environment, and in 2021 - we will prove that there are more shades of green in the IDF.
