Almost Europe: Christmas in Nazareth

The idea:

Christmas is already here, but while the churches in the country are closed due to the situation, it is surprising to find that the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth is open and inviting.

Moreover: despite the corona's limitations, the government tourism company, in coordination with the Nazareth Municipality, managed to incorporate festive lighting in the city's historic center, resulting in glowing streets, holiday decorations and other surprises.

In short, go to a city frequented by Christian pilgrims for many centuries.

Going out:

You can wander without a clear purpose in the historic center of the city, but it is better to take an experiential and beautiful route, most of which is descending - from the heights of the Salsian Church ("Church of Jesus the Boy") to the famous Gospel Church.

Thus, the trip begins with a beautiful panoramic view of Nazareth, and from there you descend into the narrow alleys and streets, visit the popular market of Nazareth and reach the Church of the Annunciation.

The church, considered one of the most important in the Christian world, is built over the cave in which Mary was informed of the birth of Jesus.

It was designed by the Italian architect Gavani Motzio and was built in the 1960s by the Solel Boneh company.

As a place considered the cradle of the birth of Christianity, it boasts impressive architecture and a dome that rises to a height of about 60 meters.

This route is also recommended to include the Miriam Spring Square, which always looks its best, even when it is not particularly lit for the holiday.

To get there: For

those who perform the proposed route - start at the Selzian Church ("Church of Jesus the Boy") on Selzian Street.

For the rest - "Church of the Annunciation" in Wise.

One more thing:

it is recommended to visit the Jump Mountain, and get a panoramic view of the lower Galilee.

"The Lone Oak" in Gush Etzion

The idea:

For almost 700 years, the "lone oak" has stood upright, an impressive and magnificent tree that has become the mythological symbol of Go Shatzion.

The historic complex in which it is planted has received extensive renovation and development work in the past two years, led by the Gush Etzion Regional Council and the Gush Etzion Tourism Association, and with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Tourism.

Let's be among the first to visit this special site in its redesigned format.

Going out into the field: To

the lone oak site, planted near the localities of Rosh Tzurim and Alon Shvut, innovations were added, including an impressive and large three-dimensional model of the entire Gush Etzion map, including eye-catching explanatory signs.

This is in addition to voice information stations, play facilities for children and more.

The lone oak became a symbol after the conquest of Gush Etzion by the soldiers of the Jordanian Legion.

After the war, it could be clearly seen from certain points in the mountains of Jerusalem, and thus it became the object of longing to return to this part of the country.

At the end of the Six Day War, this longing was fulfilled.

It is interesting to find out that the settlement "Alon Shvut" is named after him, an elderly and impressive Alon.

Getting there:

Through the old entrance to Alon Shvut.

One more thing: a

picnic in front of the view and by the water, in the Ein Yitzhak spring complex (Ein Sajma), near Bat Ayin.

A new umbrella exhibit in Old Jerusalem

The idea:

A colorful and inspiring umbrella display was recently set up in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem.

It's time to go out and discover the latest city innovation, as well as more surprises that have popped up along the way.

Going out into the field:

The exhibit includes hundreds of umbrellas hung on Christian Street in the Old City, which will probably make it highly popular among many photography enthusiasts.

This is of course not a new idea, and umbrella exhibits appear around the world, and also in Jerusalem, on Yoel Salomon Street in Nahalat Shiva.

One way or another, the current exhibition will enrich the experience of a trip around the Old City, and is part of a large-scale infrastructure and accessibility project of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Jerusalem Heritage and Municipality through PMI (East Jerusalem Development).

Arrive:

Christian Quarter Old Jerusalem. The exhibition is open 24 hours 24 hours a day, free of charge.

One more thing:

The Walls Promenade is currently open to the public, in the southern promenade section - from the Jaffa Gate to the Western Wall. It is highly recommended to walk there, and get new and refreshing perspectives on the Old City. 00-9: 00, Friday and holiday eves 14: 00-9: 00. Length of the route: about a kilometer. Entrance fee (NIS 20 for an adult, NIS 10 for a child).

On top of the water in Nahal Peres

The idea:

There is no doubt that winter is the best time to hike in the desert.

And if you are already hiking in the desert - it is recommended to do it on water.

True, it's a bit chilly now for a full body dip, but a coffee set and a foot dip is a pleasant must.

Especially now, after the recent floods, which have filled the backs of Nahal Peres.

Going out into the field:

Nahal Peres, in the southern Dead Sea area in the Judean Desert, got its name thanks to the birds of prey found in this area.

It offers a popular route for winter hikers who like to incorporate in their trip on water.

Simply because there is nothing like the combination of water and desert.

Try and enjoy.

Just remember to keep an eye on the kids: most of the backs are shallow, but still dangerous for immersion for the little ones, without your close supervision and accompaniment.

Arrive:

Wise "Gabi Peres".

Camp next to Road 25 (near the 111 km stone) and walk along the red trail, and later - join the green trail. Please note: Nahal Peres offers several hiking options, when the full route is long and requires two vehicles. Therefore, try the version The route is intended for well-to-do families, and is about four kilometers long (about two kilometers in each direction). It is mandatory to have a map of the route and a detailed description of it. Under no circumstances should you walk in the area in case of flood danger.

Something else:

a special dessert For a trip, you will find in Pluti Ein, a small and intimate spring on the way to Neot HaKikar in the south of the Dead Sea, which is pleasant for immersion even on sunny winter days.
