Since December 15, 2020,
risk groups
and
people
over 60 have been supported with the issue of
FFP2 masks
.
With our
instructions
for
washing
the
FFP2 masks
, they also protect them when worn several times.
Kassel - During the first lockdown in
Germany
at the beginning of
2020
, the
price
of
Corona
protective items
rose
sharply.
The
price of
FFP2 masks also
exploded.
If the masks had cost around 50 cents each before the pandemic, in
spring 2020
the prices rose to more than
10 euros in
some
cases.
Since Tuesday (December 15th, 2020)
people
with previous illnesses and
people
older than
60
can
pick up
the coveted
FFP2 masks
free of charge from the pharmacy.
However, only three
FFP2 masks are
provided for
each person
authorized to collect
.
Germany: 80 million FFP2 masks - can I use the corona face mask multiple times?
Extrapolated to the whole of Germany, that would be a little over 80 million FFP2 masks if all those entitled
actually pick up
the
free masks
.
There
are three
FFP2 masks
per person
, but these are far too few to be worn only once.
Usually
FFP2 masks
(promotional link)
are
intended
as single-use
products
.
However, the FFP2 masks are mainly worn for dust protection and not to
combat
the
corona pandemic
.
In current day-to-day usage, it is perfectly legitimate
to clean and reuse
the
FFP2 mask
.
Inventor of the N95 (ffp2) mask, which protects both the wearer and his counterpart well against Covid-19, did this top work on reuse.

Instructions for FFP2 masks: Earlier cleaning recommendation withdrawn
At the end of
March 2020
, the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices still recommended that
masks
be cleaned
with
heat
.
Specifically, the
Federal Office
had advised
to heat
the
FFP2 masks
at 65 to 70 degrees Celsius dry heat (oven or similar) for 30 minutes.
This should lead to
decontamination
and
still preserve
the protective effect of the
mask
.
In the meantime, however, the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices advises against it.
Further scientific knowledge would have shown this.
FFP2 masks: Avoid these things when cleaning the corona face mask
Everyday
masks
made of
fabric
can be
washed
in the
washing machine
without any problems
.
But what about the
FFP2 masks
- are they washable? * No.
Under no circumstances should these be washed in the washing machine.
Decontamination with a
disinfectant
is also
not an option
with the
FFP2 masks
.
In order to maintain the protective function of the
free FFP2 masks
, there is currently only one cleaning method.

Cleaning FFP2 masks: The Corona face mask dries best in the sun
To
clean
an
FFP2 mask
, it should be
hung up
in a dry room
so
that it can be
ventilated
.
It should be
aired for
at least
72 hours
.
It is best if the
FFP2 mask
hangs
in the
sun
.
In this way, the protective effect of the
mask is
retained and it can be reused.
If an
FFP2 mask
gets wet while being worn, it should be changed immediately.
Corona masks are useful for protection - this is how you wear them correctly.
