A strike by employees of the Derichebourg waste collection company has caused a pile of rubbish in the streets of three districts of Marseille, AFP journalists noted.

In six days of strike, 550 tonnes of waste could not be collected in the 2nd, 15th and 16th arrondissements.

With the blocking of transfer centers which now paralyzes 10 municipalities, including Marseille, this figure could more than double in 24 hours, underlines the Metropolis.

These transfer centers receive daily waste from the municipalities of Marseille, Septèmes-les-Vallons, La Ciotat, Cassis, Carnoux, Roquefort-la-Bédoule, Gémenos, Ceyreste, Allauch and Plan-de-Cuques.
